WheatNet-IP:
Two Words - Intelligent Network
WheatNet-IP AoIP
Go for simple, fast, sensible. It’s all in the WheatNet-IP Intelligent Network: audio routing, mixing, processing, silence detection, logic control, and third-party equipment integration, from your program automation to your transmitter link. Only WheatNet-IP distributes intelligence across all access points in one unified, robust Gigabit IP network for reliability, scalability and extreme studio programmability. Best of all, WheatNet-IP is the driving engine under the surface for a wide range of control surfaces made by Wheatstone.

WheatNet-IP Benefits
- Take control of your studio operation. Make wholesale studio changes or switch studios from any seat, reconfigure control surfaces for multiple purposes, and even change audio processing settings automatically when, say, a certain mic turns on. It’s all in the WheatNet.
- Simplify your life. Because WheatNet-IP is a true IP network with smarts, you spend less time configuring the system and other busywork, and more time on what’s important: creating awesome sound.
- Be spontaneous. Add codecs, processors and controllers or change I/Os in a snap.
- Create more delivery channels for your programming, instantly. WheatNet-IP has advanced routing features so you can add HD, web, and other channels without adding to the payroll.
- Push studio network obsolescence back – way back, with the latest AoIP system for broadcast. Only WheatNet-IP has a control layer for studio interoperability and fast Ethernet for studio operation that goes way beyond anything else out there.
- Go with a stable network. Don’t depend on one PC to call all the shots. WheatNet-IP distributes the workload to all access points in the system for better overall network stability.
- Avoid costly system failures. A distributed and intelligent network means no more centralized points of failure to go wrong, plus more points of recovery. Every WheatNet-IP BLADE access unit is self-aware, and can reconfigure itself in an emergency. In fact, each BLADE in the network can recover settings for your entire studio operation!
- Stay ahead of the curve with Gigabit architecture. You might not be in a hurry now with 100mbps bandwidth throughput, but we promise you’ll want the system that has 1 gigabit/second throughput once all those new data systems come along.
- Eliminate audio latency problems. Finally, an AoIP system that can keep up with audio, which means your automation system won’t ever drop a satellite feed or skip a commercial because of delay again. Gigabit Ethernet is why.
- Expand your network at any time, for less. With control and intelligence built into every WheatNet-IP BLADE access unit, you already have most of the network-ability you need to grow with the times.
- Get more network functionality for less cost. Some AoIP nodes are mere input/output devices. BLADEs, by comparison, have two 8-channel utility mixers for mixing, summing and controlling audio. With all that functionality built-in, WheatNet-IP could save you up to 50% in hardware costs alone.
- Make sound quality a priority, again. WheatNet-IP audio drivers interface directly to your automation or playout system; no soundcards or A/D/A conversions required.
Making Sense of AoIP
Only the WheatNet-IP system distributes intelligence across the studio network. It is the only audio-over-IP routing system with a control layer based on true IP architecture and Gigabit Ethernet throughput. As a result, WheatNet-IP audio routing is more dynamic and studio elements are always talking to each other about command and control, and not just streaming audio between them.
Logic follows audio, too; no more having to chase down or create new logic commands for sources every time you change control surfaces or studios. The WheatNet-IP Intelligent Network communicates easily with all sources, devices and systems by way of Wheatstone’s Automation Control Interface (ACI). This is why an announcer sitting at a playout or automation PC networked by WheatNet-IP can pot up a fader or turn on a mic from any studio in the facility, and even set automatic audio processing presets for each ... all without leaving his chair.
WheatNet-IP has more redundancy (ask us about our self-healing BLADEs, or nodes), more network throughput (WheatNet-IP is Gigabit Ethernet because there’s just no substitute for speed), more system reliability (silence sensing included), more connectivity (think true IP networking) and more built-in utilities (BLADEs come with two virtual utility mixers each for summing, splitting and level adjusting; no distribution amplifiers required) than any other audio-over-IP system for broadcast.

Q: I like that your WheatNet-IP system is based on gigabit Ethernet. But I’m worried I’ll have to pay more for network switches because they have to be gigabit-capable switches.
