Revenue Generating Public Radio Technologies: A Progress Report
Technology has provided public radio stations with a variety of new business models to help raise money. But there are many of them and it is hard to know which are working, Does streaming multiple channels of programing motivate listeners at fund drive time? Can adding an HD radio channel provide opportunity for the sale of public radio style sponsorships? This study measures the opinions of top level public radio engineers on these and other revenue generating technologies. Why ask engineers about business models? Because each of these new business models is based on a new technology, and it is the engineers who are closest to the point of their implementation.
